While the CBS story stops shortly after the Salk invention of an effective Polio Vaccine, Rotary has been working to eliminate this disease from all corners of the world.
 
Rotary launched PolioPlus in 1985 and was a founding member of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988. Through decades of commitment and work by Rotary and our partners, more than 2.5 billion children have received the oral polio vaccine.  Chagrin Highlands Rotary Club member and Past Rotary International Director Dr. Don Kwait participated in some of the initial travels across the world to administer the Polio Vaccine Drops to children.
